“Energy flows where attention goes” - Source Unknown
I have been working in the health industry and on building my business for the past 23 years. I have burned out more times than I can count, but one stands out the most vividly to me. It was 2011, I was one year into launching my dream Yoga, Pilates and Wellness studio Simplicity and I was exhausted. I was overwhelmed, full of fear, anxiety, and debt. I had a 2 year old and 4 year old at the time and my husband was also running his own company. We were passing ships, I was working 70+ hours a week and teaching 20 exercises classes on my own and still pumping to nurse my son.
One morning on the way to dropping my kids to daycare, I stopped by the bank to take out some money. The machine read back “insufficient funds” I tried a lower amount...“insufficient funds.”
I then tried $20 the lowest amount you could ask for and the machine read $18.43. My heart, ego, pride, and soul sunk. I looked into the rearview mirror and saw my children staring back at me in their car seats and felt like I had failed them.
I was in so much debt building and running my dream business and serving others, that I had lost my way in serving and supporting myself and family. For the next four days I became the couch, I literally didn’t move. I whipped up a huge fever, could barely lift my head off the couch and my entire body ached, my little kids took turns putting cold cloths on my head and on day four my husband knelt in front of me desperate and said, “Jenn, I don’t know what to do, I don’t know how to help you”. The reality was he couldn’t. It was on me.
I sat up, shifted my week old ponytail to the side and picked up the phone. I started calling every business owner I knew that was successful and asked them what to do, while I scribbled down notes.
While that moment in my life sucked the wind out of me, it also ignited a fire within to shift my approach. Over the years, I have now learned how to honour my body first and business second, which has created the space for me to support them both.
Now, the moment I feel myself teetering to a place of unravelling and reliving my couch days, I saddle up next to self care and uplevel my own well being and I am stoked to teach you how to do the same!
What I’ve learned: The more ambitious your goals for your business and life; the more aware and connected to your own personal health, energy, and vitality you need to be. I promise you, that when YOU feel more alive and thriving, your business will too!
